WHICH ELECTRIC SCOOTER SHOULD I BUY?

Updated: Feb 22

We always get a lot of questions about ..

"Which one should i choose?"

"Is it the higher the power, the bigger the battery, the better?"

Our answer is definitely a "NO". Consumers have to understand that, a higher power or a bigger battery always comes with some costs:-

(i) Bigger scooter size

(ii) Heavier

(iii) Longer charging time.

For example, an Inokim Mini 2 (36V - 7.8AH) weight about 9kg. However, a Zero 10X (52V - 18AH) weight about 35kg!

So, in this post we will explain & summarize everything to guide you on purchasing the model that is right for you. But first, there are 2 terms that you need to understand, Voltage [V] & Ampere-Hour [AH]. [V] refers to power efficiency & [AH] refers to battery capacity in simple words. In short, the higher the [V], the higher the power. The higher the [AH], the longer the range.

For Riders (Weight < 80kg)

For those who fall into this category, electric scooters or electric bicycles with a voltage of 36V or 48V is recommended. 48V is better for uphill roads. In terms of battery capacity, 8AH is enough for 60 minutes ride. If >60 minutes, battery size of at least 13AH is recommended. We also highly recommend riders to be at least 6 years old to use an electric scooter or electric bicycle as the speed might not be safe for younger ones.

1. For Those Prefer Portability & Lightweight (36V, 8AH-10.4AH)

As we've mentioned earlier, lightweight scooters don't have big power or long battery life, and the tires are small. Therefore, you might feel bumpy on uneven roads. Usually we recommend lightweight & low power electric scooters for kids or female riders as they are safer to use.

2. For Those Prefer Performance (At least 48V, 13AH)

If your daily road condition involves a lot of uphill roads or uneven surfaces, you need a high power & dual suspension electric scooter to ride comfortably & go uphill with ease. Uphill & fast riding is going to consume the battery faster. Thus, a bigger battery is recommended.

For Riders (Weight 80kg-120kg)

For consumers who fall into this category, you have no choice but to choose a heavier electric scooter with a higher voltage of at least 52V. Riding a low power scooter will overwork and spoil the motor. High power e-scooters will be heavy and bulky. But riders in this weight category definitely need a bigger e-scooter for stability at high speed.

1. For Those Prefer Portability & Lightweight (48V, 13AH)

If your daily roads are mostly flat, then 48V is still ok for heavier riders. Choosing 48V is a budget option for riders above 80kg. But don't expect 48V to perform well on very steep uphill roads.

2. For Those Prefer Performance (At least 52V, 15.6AH)

If you like speed or extreme riding style, go for at least 52V & bigger battery size. Heavier riders also have a higher chance to get tires punctured. So do remember to check your tire pressure & if you like off-roads, converting to off-road tires are highly recommended.

** IMPORTANT NOTE TO EVERY RIDERS **

After all, hope you have a clear guideline on choosing your electric scooter or electric bicycle. No matter how high power your e-scooter/e-bike is, please ride it at the roadsides or pedestrian walkways ONLY. E-scooters/e-bikes are NOT allowed on highways! This is to ensure the safety of yourself and also others. And remember, wear a safety helmet when you are riding it on the road. ;)
